About Dr Phatho Zondi
Phatho is not only a sports doctor but also an avid runner herself, with a number of half marathons, marathons and triathlons in the bag. Having journeyed with and treated many recreational and elite runners, Phatho’ sports medicine philosophy is one of holistic health for maximum performance.
Dr Zondi is the Chief Executive Officer of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. Her proficiencies include clinical sports medicine, corporate governance and strategic leadership. She completed her undergraduate medical degree at the University of Cape Town and later an MSc in Sports Medicine and MBA at the University of Pretoria and GIBS.
Dr Zondi chairs the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) Medical Advisory Committee, and is the Past President for the South African Sports Medicine Association. She is a Director of the South African Institute for Drug Free Sports (SAIDS).
Clinical highlights include serving as Chief Medical Officer for Team South Africa at the 2017 World Games, 2016 Rio Paralympic Games and the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and being a medical officer for Team SA at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
